Mechanical and vibration tests

At Istituto Giordano's Pomezia site, environmental VIBRATION and SHOCK tests are performed on mechanical/electromechanical/electronic equipment, as well as other destructive tests such as impacts/falls on packaged products and impact resistance of plastic material.

The laboratory is accredited by ACCREDIA according to UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025 for sinusoidal vibration, random vibration and shock test methods:
- EN 60068-2-6 “Environmental tests - Fc test: Vibration (sinusoidal) /Environmental testing - Test Fc: Vibration” (sinusoidal)”
- EN 60068-2-64 "Environmental tests - Fh test: Random broadband vibration and driving/Environmental testing - Fh test: Vibration, broadband random and guidance”
- EN 60068-2-27 “Environmental tests - Ea test and guidance: Impact/Environmental testing - Test Ea and guidance: Shock”

Below is a non-exhaustive list of test standards/specifications for the products tested:
  • RFI IS 402 “Type and Acceptance Tests for electronic and electromagnetic equipment for Safety and Signalling installations”
  • EN 61373 “Railway applications - Rolling stock equipment - Shock and vibration tests”
  • MIL-STD-810X “Environmental Engineering Considerations and Laboratory Tests”
  • MIL-STD-167-1A “Mechanical vibration of shipboard equipment”
  • RTCA DO-160X “Environmental conditions and test procedures for airborne equipment”
  • EN 12966-1 “Vertical road traffic signs - Variable message signs - Part 1: Product standard”
  • EN 12368 “Traffic control equipment - Traffic light lanterns”
  • EN 1300 “Secure storage units - Classification for high security locks according to their resistance to unauthorised opening”
  • ASTM D4169-22 “Standard Practice for Performance Testing of Shipping Containers and Systems”
  • EN 12405 “Gas meters - Conversion devices - Part 1: Volume conversion”
  • EN 62052-11 “Electricity metering equipment - General requirements, tests and test conditions - Part 11: Metering equipment”
  • EN 54-16 “Fire detection and fire alarm systems - Part 16: Voice alarm control and indicating equipment”
  • ASTM D 256 “Standard Test Methods for Determining the Izod Pendulum Impact resistance of Plastics”
  • UNI EN ISO 179-1 “Plastics - Determination of Charpy impact characteristics - Part 1: Uninstrumented impact test”.

The laboratory has two vibration test facilities, one of which is a Shaker with vibrating table in the horizontal direction.
