Welding Certification and Non Destructive Testing

Welding Certification and Non Destructive Testing

This section mainly carries out the welding certification procedures,  non destructive testing and qualification of welders (performance qualification certificates).

MAIN ACTIVIES IN WELDING CERTIFICATION AND NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING:

Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) Certification according to UNI EN 287-1, AWS D1.1, ASME IX, UNI EN ISO 17660-1 and UNI EN ISO 17660-2, 2014/68/UE (PED)

The qualification of welders is carried out by their welding a test piece of fixed size according to the above standards in the presence of an Istituto Giordano certified technician.

The the welding certification of the test piece can be carried out after a period of training, if necessary, either at Istituto Giordano or on the Customer’s premises but always under the supervision of an IG technician.

After the welding of the test piece, the test samples used will be sent to the IG laboratory for non destructive testing.  If all testing has a positive result, the Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) Certificate will be issued.

The validity of the certificate is from two to six years depending on the stardard.

NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING METHODS (NDT):

NON DESVT, MT, PT, UT, RT ARE THE TESTING METHODS CARRIED OUT BY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL ACCORDING TO ISO 9712, ASNT SNT-TC-1A, 2014/68/UE (PED) .
Istituto Giordano’s qualified personnel carry out non destructive testing on-site in building yards and workshops as well as thickness measurements on tanks and structures.  In addition they can carry out non destructive testing and controls on samples sent to our laboratories.

WELDING CERTIFICATION:

WELDING CERTIFICATION PROCEDURE ACCORDING TO UNI EN ISO 15614-1. AWS D1.1, ASME IX,  UNI EN ISO 17660-1 AND UNI EN ISO 17660-2, 2014/68/UE (PED).
The welding procedure (as for the WPQ) is carried out by the welding of a test piece of fixed size according to the above standards in the presence of an IG certified technician.

After the welding of the test piece, the test sample used will be sent to the IG laboratory for testing. (NB This procedure is more complicated than for the WPQC so more testing is required.) If all testing has a positive result, the Welding Certification, Welding Procedure Qualification Record (WPQR) will be issued.
The validity of a Welding Certification is unlimited.
