UKCA marking: agreement between Istituto Giordano and BBA (UK approved bodies)

(Pubbl. 30/09/2021)
When will the UKCA construction products mark come into effect?
The UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) mark is the new United Kingdom mark that will replace CE marking and be used for goods placed on the British market (England, Scotland and Wales) after the United Kingdom has left the European Union (Brexit).
UKCA certification will be mandatory for construction products as from 1st January 2023.
Starting from that date only products having this mark will be accepted in the United Kingdom. Manufacturers’ obligations are basically unchanged but reference will now be made solely to BS standards and no longer to EN European standards. The only language accepted for a product’s Declaration of Performance (DoP) will be English.

What will change for a manufacturer?
As from 1st January 2021, notified bodies in the United Kingdom operating under the terms of the CPR and with registered office in the United Kingdom have been awarded the new status of UK approved body.
The manufacturer (or its authorised representative) may only affix the UKCA mark when the conformity assessment has been carried out by an approved body.

What are the terms of the agreement between Istituto Giordano and BBA?
Under the terms of the agreement between Istituto Giordano and BBA (Approved Body) BBA recognises the CPR AVCP 1 and 2+ audits/inspections performed by Istituto Giordano (see table for standards covered by the agreement with BBA) for the purposes of obtaining and maintaining the corresponding UKCA certification.
This means that if a product has undergone a conformity assessment with Istituto Giordano, additional audits to obtain the corresponding UKCA certification are not necessary.
Likewise, a construction product covered by the agreement with the BBA that is subsequently certified by Istituto Giordano will not require additional audits in order to obtain the UKCA mark.

The British Board of Agrément (BBA) is a UKAS-accredited certification body based in Watford (United Kingdom) that possesses the following recognitions for the purposes of issuing UKCA certification:
- "Approved Body"
- "TAB (Technical Assessment Body)"
